April 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - Kozhikode:

Administrative sanction has been accorded to a seawall project along the Kottakkal coast in Payyoli grama panchayat.

The project was approved on the basis of a recommendation submitted by an MP and former Union Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran.

Rs. 2.6 cr. sanctioned

According to panchayat authorities, a sum of Rs.2.6 crore sanctioned by the State government will be spent for the construction of the seawall, which will save several fishermen families from sea erosion. In the last monsoon season, there were several families hit by sea erosion, they said.

In a communication here, Mr. Ramachandran said the project would be completed during this fiscal itself to address the concerns of the families in the region.

“I have also submitted a special request to the Chief Minister to immediately sanction funds for the reconstruction of the old Korappuzha bridge,” he added.
