Sanction for meetings

Several applications following relaxation of prohibitory orders

April 24, 2018 08:21 am | Updated 08:21 am IST - Kozhikode

Following the relaxation of prohibitory orders imposed by the police in the city following the last week’s social media-sponsored hartal, political parties and socio-cultural organisations have sought permission to host various events and celebrations in the city limit. Assistant Commissioners Police (ACPs) are authorised to give the sanction after scrutinising the application, the purpose and the nature of each event.

The list of applicants waiting for the permission include the office-bearers of residents’ associations, coordinators of family meets and other private functions. Several of such events have been cancelled or postponed following the prohibitory orders issued on April 18 on the basis of a Special Branch report that possibilities were high for communal clashes in the wake of the social media hartal and the subsequent action initiated by the police.
