Samithi seeks funds for Uroob memorial

Kerala to celebrate birth centenary of the writer this year

The Uroob Samskarika Samithi has expressed strong discontent over the Budget presented by Finance Minister K.M. Mani.

The Budget had not allocated any funds for a memorial for writer Uroob, which, the Samithi said, had been promised by Minister for Culture K.C. Joseph. Samithi convener K.P. Vijayakumar said the decision had been a major disappointment to the region, especially when the State was going to celebrate the birth centenary of the writer from June 8 this year.

In fact, Mr. Joseph’s former adviser and writer T.P. Rajeevan had submitted a sketch of the proposed memorial as directed by the Minister. The Samithi had also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Finance Minister, and the Culture Minister.

The Samithi, which urged MLAs to argue for the promised memorial, also demanded that the Budget for the year be passed only after at least Rs.50 lakh was allocated for the same.
