The district will get Rs.600 crore out of a total Rs.10,000 crore declared by the Chief Minister for road development and expansion works in the State, Minister for Public Works V.K. Ebrahim Kunju has said.
The Minister made the announcement on Saturday during the inauguration of the renovated mini by-pass road at a cost of Rs.4 crore in the city.
The renovated road connects major residential, educational, and business hotspots within the city, travelling through Gandhi Road, Malabar Christian College Road, Ashokapuram, and the district’s sales tax office.
He further clarified that the Manachira-Vellimadukunnu Road, and Kothi approach road — both of which had seen public furore over delay in land acquisition process — is very much a part of the development projects. Mr. Kunju said besides the 19 roads, which were part of the Rs.40 crore one-time maintenance project, more such roads in the district would be made part of the expansion plans.
Mr. Kunju also inaugurated the Rs.4-crore construction project of Payyanakkal-Chakkumkadavu-Meenchanda Road, while adding that if the local people permit further acquisition, the width of the road could be increased to 10 metres.
