The demand of a section of private bus operators’ to consider a change in the pre-fixed city route of buses plying on the Kozhikode- Kunnamangalam route was turned down by the Traffic police on Monday.

Police officials who held discussions with the representatives of bus operators’ association made it clear that it was difficult to consider any change in the existing route as the alteration would lead to chaos on the roads.

“We have told them to strictly comply with the present route guidelines as any deviation will be against the orders of the Regional Transport Authority,” said A.K. Babu, Assistant Commissioner of Traffic (South) who convened the meeting.

He also said any attempt on the part of the drivers to violate orders would be taken seriously and buses would be impounded on the spot.

The special meeting was held at the Assistant Commissioner’s office on Monday in the wake of a recent flash strike staged by bus drivers following an argument with the local police on the unpermitted route diversion.

Two drivers had been booked in connection with the incident. The police also turned down the request of the bus operators to withdraw the cases.
