An executive meeting of the Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu Road Action Committee has urged the State government to come out with a compensation package for shop owners and their employees who would be evicted for the widening of the arterial road in the city.
The committee, presided by historian M.G.S. Narayanan, also decided to collect consent letter from landowners who are willing to give advance possession of their land for the project. These letters will be submitted to District Collector C.A. Latha.
The committee also plans to organise six regional meetings at Eranhipalam (Civil Station UP School, at 5 p.m. on August 28); Malaparamba (IQRAA High School, at 7 p.m. on August 28); Vellimadukunnu (Adithya Tuition Centre, Pooladikadavu, at 6.30 p.m. on August 29); Civil Station (IQRAA High School at 6.30 p.m. on August 30); Nadakavu (P.K. Complex at 4 p.m. on August 31) and Mavoor (CET College, Christian College Cross Road, at 7 p.m. on August 31) with the help of various residents’ associations, politicians and other voluntary organisations.
Residents have been asked to produce copies of land documents at the meeting. This would help to speed up the process of acquisition of private land needed for the development of the road.
