The Kozhikode Revenue District School Arts Festival is changing with the times. The festival souvenir of the latest edition of the arts fete, which begins at Perambra on Monday, will be published in digital format while the prize winning writings will be made available to the public in the form of a digital magazine. A mobile application that provides the results of the festival is also in the offing. The results will also be available through an online portal, chilanka17.blogspot.com.

The five-day festival will have only off-stage events on the first day. Deputy Director of Education E.K. Suresh Kumar, who is also the convenor of the festival, will hoist the flag on Monday to mark the beginning of the festival. However, the official inauguration will be held on Tuesday. Writer U.A. Khader will be the chief guest. Unlike previous years, there will be no cultural procession to mark the beginning of the festival. Instead, there will be cultural programmes every evening.

Around 9,000 students across upper primary, high school and higher secondary categories from 17 sub districts will take part in 300 events. The festival also includes an Arabic literary festival and Sankrit festival on the sidelines.

The events will be held at 18 venues with the Government Higher Secondary School grounds at Perambra being the main venue. The school premises will also host 11 other venues. Government Upper Primary School, NIM Lower Primary School, St. Francis High School and CKGM Government College grounds are the other venues. A food corner that can cater to 1,200 persons at the same time has been set up at the Government Higher Secondary School.

A film festival for children is another novelty at the festival this year. The film festival featuring children’s films will be held on December 6 and 7. The festival will have a competitive category, besides general screening and an open forum.

M.K.Raghavan, MP will be the chief guest at the valedictory function to be held at 4 p.m. on December 8.
