Readers and friends of novelist and translator Hafsa (K. Kuhammed Hashim), who died of cancer here on January 10, will commemorate him at a public function to be organised at the K.P. Kesava Menon Hall in the city on Friday.

Besides evaluating the literary contributions of Hafsa, the meet will explore the possibility of compiling his unpublished works, said a press release from the organisers here on Thursday.

The writer, who won the M.P. Paul Award for his novel Ma in 1979, was an employee of the postal department. After retiring from the service, he turned to fulltime writing, producing several works including the recently published novel Oru Athisundariyude Katha ’ (The story of an extremely beautiful woman) and a few translations. He completed the final chapters of the last novel as he still fought the fatal disease. Saraswatham , Oru Swapna Jeeviyude Athmakatha, Akramam, Theekkanal and Bhranthan are some of his other works.

Cultural leaders and writers including P.K. Parakkadavu, V.R. Sudeesh, O. Abdurahiman, Shihabudheen Poythumkadavu and A.P. Kunhamu will attend the function, said Abdul Rasheed Makkada, one of the key organisers.
