Case regarding the rape of tribal woman in Adivaram
A timely tip-off given by the staff at the Koyilandy Government Hospital helped the rural police net the three accused in a rape case recently reported from Adivaram in which a 42-year-old tribal woman was attacked. The investigation into the incident, which was reported last Monday, got a fresh twist when the hospital authorities secretly informed the police that one of the suspected accused was undergoing treatment there for an injury he sustained in the fight with the woman.
On Wednesday, the arrest of the main accused namely K. Sulfikkar was recorded.
The following day, K.T. Shameer, 36, and T. Ashraf, 42, the other two accused, were also nabbed as per the information given by Sulfikkar. All the accused, hailing from Adivaram, were produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Thamarassery and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
In the incident, the tribal woman, hailing from Mukkam, suffered serious injuries and had been shifted to Kozhikode Medical College hospital for treatment.
It was a group of local people who found the abandoned lady at Adivaram on Monday morning and alerted the police. According to the woman’s statement, the three-member gang raped her in a deserted area at Adivaram after forcefully taking her from Mukkam.
Statement of accused
As per the statement, it was Sulfikkar who allegedly took the lady to Adivaram.
The case was investigated by a rural police team led by Thamarassery Dy S.P. Jaison K. Abraham.
