Six houses have been destroyed and 330 damaged in the district since the monsoon set off in the beginning of June.

The damage has been estimated at Rs.11 lakh for the destroyed houses and at Rs.88 lakh that for those damaged, a press release said.

Crops in 84 hectares of land have been destroyed, with the loss estimated at Rs.35 lakh. Residents of 11 houses that had submerged at Vengeri have been shifted to the rehabilitation camp at Government Lower Primary School there. Twenty-eight families shifted to the houses of their relatives at Vadakara where the sea wall had crumpled. Rehabilitation camps will be set up here if necessary, the district administration said in the release.
