An ex-serviceman is looking for compensation from the Railways for his daughter who was paralysed following an accident during a train journey in 2013. Several appeals and petitions to the Railway Ministry have gone in vain.

K. Divakaran of Chelannur says he has been finding it difficult to meet the treatment expenses of his daughter who was paralysed after a fall from the Executive Express while travelling from Ernakulam to Kozhikode on August 8, 2013.

He says his daughter, K. Disha, an MBA student, fell from the train during a fight with a stranger who wanted to grab her bag. “As she was in a paralysed state for long after the accident, she could not reveal what exactly occurred that day to the investigating officials,” he says. Mr. Divakaran says his family is entirely dependent on his meagre pension to make ends meet and for Disha’s treatment expenses. “We are spending at least Rs.25,000 every month on her treatment. She is likely to get back her speech and mobility through proper and continuous medication,” he says.
