Ragam off to an exciting start

Ragam, the annual cultural festival of the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC), began on its campus at Chathamangalam in the district on Friday.

The four-day festival covering all aspects through a plethora of events began with Swararaaga and light musical competitions.

The literary events included the preliminary of What’s The Good Word, Spell- B, Debate (English) and poetry recitation. The other contests were Reporter and Antakshari (Hindi) and sketching.

As part of the I-Ink, the literary festival, writer K.E.N. Kunhammed talked about poetry and life.

The afternoon had panellists Narayan, author of Kocharethi , the first novel by a tribesman in Kerala, and O.K. Johnny, writer and filmmaker.

They discussed tribal literature. There was also a serious discussion on the under-representation of Adivasi literature in mainstream media and literature.

Thrilling performance

Also, Ragam 18’s Prodezza kicked off to a great start with a thrilling performance of illusionist Arjun Guru and singing sensation Gowry Lekshmi.

Internationally acclaimed music duo Vishal—Shekhar performed in the open air theatre on the campus in the evening.
