The District Congress Committee will accord a public reception to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for winning the United Nations award for public service. The function will be held at Tagore Centenary Hall here on Saturday.

Announcing this here, DCC president K.C. Abu, vice-president K. Gopalakrishnan and DCC general secretary K.V. Subramanian told presspersons on Monday that Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran, and M.K. Raghavan, and M.I. Shanawas, MPs, would attend the function.

The name of K. Muraleedharan, MLA, who has represented Kozhikode in the Lok Sabha, does not figure on the list of Congress leaders who will speak at the function

Mr. Abu made it clear that the DCC had no love lost for the critics of Mr. Chandy, particularly those party leaders who had not been wholeheartedly supporting the Chief Minister in the solar-scam controversy.

On TV debates

Mr. Abu was critical of the Congress leaders who had made critical comments or embarrassed party workers during TV channel debates on the issue. Mr. Abu also suggested those who did not have the skill to put across party viewpoints effectively should not participate in TV channel debates.

Mr. Abu’s remarks came in response to questions on the differences in Congress about the government’s handling of the solar racket and recent controversial remarks made by Mr. Muraleedharan on the issue.
