The Parent-Teacher Association of Government Model TTI Upper Primary School, Mananchira, has started giving breakfast to students, as a project for the purpose devised by the city corporation is likely to be delayed by one-and-a-half-months.
According to E. Rajan, a teacher at the school, technical glitches are reportedly delaying the project. “It is expected to be launched only by late July or early August.
“Students should not be troubled because of technical reasons. So, we decided to start it on our own,” he said. The students started getting breakfast from June 18.
Mr. Rajan said the menu for five days a week had been planned in view of the nutritional needs of students. Each day’s dish is different from the other. However, this has put an additional burden on the PTA.
“This year, new admissions saw a rise of around 80% in the wake of the Save Public Education campaign. Each day, we spend around ₹3,000 for breakfast,” he said.
PTA is hopeful that well-wishers will chip in with funds to ease their burden.
