Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly and Communist Party of India ( Marxist) leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has demanded that the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy order a probe into the allegations raised by Government Chief Whip P.C. George against Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan regarding his links with Gujarat-based businessman Abhilash Muraleedharan.
He was inaugurating a protest staged by the Democratic Youth Front of India (DYFI) activists in front of the District Collectorate here on Monday.
The youth wing of the CPI(M) was protesting against ban on recruitments to government services and inflation.
Continue protestHe said the Opposition parties would continue their protest against the Chief Minister who was allegedly involved in the solar case.
The CPI(M) leader said the Left parties would not mind toppling the Congress-led United Democratic Front government if it refused to quit.
Move to scuttle caseThe government attempted to scuttle the solar-scam case by appointing a retired judge to inquire into the allegations.
The CPI(M) continued with its agitations as the existing investigation was a farce, Mr. Balakrishnan said.
He also alleged that the Police Department was divided into two groups.
A section of senior police officers supported Mr. Chandy and another faction backed Mr. Radhakrishnan.
Financial crisisMr. Balakrishnan said that the State was going through a severe financial crisis.
This was evident from the undeclared ban on fresh recruitments.
At the same time the government went ahead with backdoor appointments. Recruitments on contract basis had been made for exploiting the labour force in the State, he said.
DYFI district president Aswini Dev, secretary N. Rajesh, CPI(M) district secretary T.P. Ramakrishnan, A. Pradeepkumar, MLA, DYFI State president T.V. Rajesh, MLA, DYFI Central committee member P.P. Divya, Karshaka Sangham district president P. Viswan and Students federation of India district secretary V.K. Kiranraj participated in the agitation.
