Following the arrest of two persons on the charge of pocketing money under a fraudulent employment scheme to recruit staff to the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), the city Police have launched an intensive probe into the mode of all recent appointments to fill the vacancies of casual labourers at the MCH.
The inquiry has been conducted under the headship of Medical College Circle Inspector Jaleel Thottathil following a suspicion that there could be labourers who have secured the jobs after paying money to some external agents. According to sources, the two persons — V.V. Rasheed and S. Biju — who were nabbed by the police on Thursday have given some clues to the police on the possibility.
Police officials said the two arrested persons had managed to pocket a huge sum by offering various casual jobs at the Medical College Hospital. As per the preliminary police enquiry, people who sought treatment at the medical college hospital and their bystanders were the main targets of the agents who collected money from many of such clients.
The job aspirants were issued fake identity cards and also service books to evade any possible checking, they said.
The arrested persons later confessed to the police that there were people from neighbouring districts too who had paid them money for jobs.
ExposedThe fraudulent job scheme was exposed after one of the victims who managed to secure a casual job at the hospital was accidentally caught by the medical college staff. The foul play came to light when some of the staff members checked in detail the identity proofs and other documents of the suspected person. Later, he was compelled to reveal the entire episode that led to the arrest of the two persons.
“Rasheed, the main accused in the case, is a Wayanad native and we will be investigating the chances of similar incidents that have taken place under his leadership in other districts too,” said a police official from the Medical College Circle office. He also said the police would look into various public complaints related to similar fake job schemes.
