The Anti-Power Theft Squad (APTS) functioning under the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has decided to strengthen its activities to prevent power theft and misuse of electricity in north Kerala.

This was decided at a meeting of officials chaired by the KSEB Chief Vigilance Officer Rishi Raj Singh at the Vydhudhi Bhavan here on Monday.

Addressing the officials, Mr. Singh said stern action would be taken against those indulging in power theft. Steps would be taken to detect power theft at buildings under construction such as high-rise flats, mansions, hospitals, and industrial and commercial units, he added.

The officer, who is the rank of the Additional Director General of Police, urged the APTS officials not to be lenient against the offenders. The raiding teams would be provided with equipment and police protection. All vacant posts in the APTS would be filled shortly. Mr. Singh also asked the officials to charge those caught for power theft with non-bailable offences. The APTS would carry out raids and searches in all districts in the coming days.

The public could contact the Chief Vigilance Officer (phone: 9446008006); Executive Engineer – APTS North Kerala (phone: 9446008166); Assistant Executive Engineer - APTS Kozhikode unit ( phone: 9446008168), and Assistant Executive Engineer – APTS Malappuram unit (phone: 9446008486).

The identity of the informants would be kept secret. They would also be rewarded.
