As many as 5,290 officials in the district have been imparted training in the first phase for the conduct of the Assembly polls.

The training was given to presiding officers and first polling officers.

Besides procedures in the conduct of elections, the officials were trained in the functioning of electronic voting machines. The one-day programme was divided into two sessions. Thirty-nine master trainers took classes at 15 centres.

About 5,000 persons will be given training in the second phase towards the end of April.

“There will be about 10,000 officials deputed for election duty at 1,886 polling stations in the district,” K.M. Suresh, District Planning Officer, who is also the nodal officer for training, said.
