Candidates have been reminded about the ceiling on election expenditure imposed by the Election Commission and that it should not exceed Rs.70 lakh per candidate.
Three phasesThe election expenditure will be reviewed by the authorities in three phases.
All candidates have been issued accounting registers to record actual expenditure.
Individual campaignsWhen a campaign is conducted in the name of any particular candidate at meetings organised during the visit of top leaders of political parties, the expenditure incurred for the event will be treated as part of election expenditure of that candidate.
This was clarified by V. Srinivasan, Election Observer for expenditure, at a meeting of candidates and their representatives here on Thursday.
If the candidate’s name is not used, it will be considered as expenditure incurred by the party.
Meanwhile, arrangements for the Lok Sabha elections are making progress.
Service ballotsService ballots for officials who are away from home on official duty in Central services and Armed forces have been sent by post.
Kozhikode Lok Sabha constituency has 5,200 service votes and Vadakara 5,000.
The authorities are also taking steps to create better awareness about importance of elections through systematic voter education and electoral participation programme (SWEEP).
The focus of the programme is on 179 polling stations in the district where polling percentage is comparatively less.
Most of the stations are in Kozhikode North, Kozhikode South, and Beypore Assembly segments, a spokesman for Election Department has said.
