An 18-year-old boy hailing from Kuravangad, who allegedly sent a threat letter to the Koyilandy Circle Inspector in the guise of a Maoist was tracked down by the police.
The police said the boy sent the letter to the Circle Inspector last Saturday for the action the officer had taken against illegal sand-mining gangs in the area.
In the letter, the boy, claiming to be member of the Maoist movement in the area, asks the police officer to “stop rowdyism and the practice of handcuffing people.”
He also asks the officer to leave Koyilandy if he wants to escape a cruel public trial.
Though the boy was summoned to the Koyilandy Circle Office on Sunday, he was soon released without any legal action.
Circle Inspector C.R. Haridas said the boy did not have any Maoist connection.
“We did not charge him as he did it without any deliberate intention to attack the police or seek the support of any extremist force for the same. We warned him as he was not aware of the legal implications,” Mr. Haridas added.
The police traced the source of the letter posted from Koyilandy after interrogating some of the key accused in the illegal sand-mining cases. The boy admitted to his role in the incident when he was grilled on the basis of clues received from some of his friends.
