June 30, 2013 12:50 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 10:12 pm IST - Kozhikode:

Jossy Cherian, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP), Vadakara, a member of the special police team that probed the T.P. Chandrasekharan murder case, told the trial court here that there was an attempt to murder the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader in 2009.

The officer was deposing before R. Narayana Pisharadi, judge, Special Additional District and Sessions Court (Marad Cases) for the second day here on Saturday. Chandrasekharan was killed allegedly by a hired gang at Vallikkad, near Onchiyam, Vadakara, around 10.15 p.m. on May 4, 2012.

Mr. Cherian said that the attempt to murder Chandrasekharan came to light when Shijith aka Annan, one of the alleged assailants and sixth accused in the case, was interrogated.

He had carried out the investigation into the case of alleged conspiracy hatched by a section of Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI-M] leaders to finish off Chandrasekharan. A charge sheet was filed at the Vadakara First Class Judicial Magistrate Court.

The Third Additional District and Sessions Court here will conduct the trial.

Special public prosecutor C.K. Sreedharan informed the court that the prosecution had submitted four copies of the First Information Report, final investigation report and charge sheet in this regard to the defence counsels.

Mr. Cherian said that he had arrested three accused in the case, including K.C. Ramachandran, member of the Kunnumakkara local committee of the CPI (M) on May 16, 2012. This was after the special police team obtained clinching evidence about their role, particularly Ramachandran, in the murder case. The CPI (M) leader was summoned to the Vadakara Dy.SP Office for questioning and subsequently his arrest was recorded.

He said that Ramachandran had identified the flower shop of M.K. Ravindran, aka Padayankandi Ravindran, who is an accused and a member of the Orkkatteri local committee of the CPI(M). This was where the CPI (M) had plotted to kill the RMP leader. This shop was examined and a mahassar report prepared.

Mr. Cherian said he had arrested M. Saneesh, 41st accused, and P. Kumaran, 72nd accused later. Saneesh had confessed that K.K. Mohammed Shafi, fifth accused in the case, had been hiding at the house of one Babu in ward VII of Mahe Municipality.

Blood stains were found in the house. And samples were also collected from here.

He said that Saneesh had identified the Koothuparamba area committee office of the CPI(M) where the accused resided as a fugitive. An observation mahassar was prepared based on this.

Kumaran was arrested and later released on bail, the officer said.
