The Kerala Government Medical College Teachers Association has alleged that a conspiracy is going on to remove C. Ravindran, Principal of Government Medical College, Kozhikode, from his post.
A group of corrupt employees in the medical college were trying to persuade the Health Minister to remove Dr. Ravindran, the association alleged in a press release on Wednesday.
The association also threatened to go on strike, along with the non-teaching staff and students of the medical college, if the government goes with the whims of the corrupt. “Only the government will be responsible if the normal working of the medical college hospital comes to a standstill because of the strike,” the association said.
The Kozhikode medical college was in news recently for the wrong reasons, especially with regard to the problems associated with the functioning of the Hospital Development Society. The Principal and members of political parties were also part of the development society, with the District Collector as the chairman and Hospital Superintendent as the convenor. There have been many allegations of corruption in the appointment of temporary staff under the society.
A few months ago, a television channel had reported on such an incidence with proof, upon which the temporary employee concerned was dismissed and the Hospital Superintendent was suspended. Recently, a group of people unleashed violence on the medical college premises, demanding that the dismissed employee be reinstated. They even threatened the Principal, upon which the latter filed a police complaint. The miscreants detained the Principal on the next day, demanding that the complaint be withdrawn.
But they had to backtrack when the teaching and non-teaching staff of the medical college and the students came up to support the Principal. Now, those people were trying to remove the Principal from his post, the association alleged.
