Pigeon flyers’ convention

Deputy Commissioner of Police Merin Joseph will open the 32nd annual convention of Calicut Pigeon Flyers’ Association to be held at Nalanda Auditorium in Kozhikode at 6 p.m. on November 26. Actors Amal Shah and Govind.V. Pai, noted for their roles in the movie Parava which is based on pigeon flying, will give away the prizes to the winners of various competitions on the occasion. The Association has been coordinating pigeon flyers’ groups across north Kerala and conducting tournaments for the past 31 years. Tournaments are often held between May and September, and prizes worth around ₹5 lakh are given away every year.

The prizes to members who have flown their pigeons for 13 to 15 hours will be awarded in the convention. The Malabar regional winner for the year is Finas Kodapparamba from Kannur whose pigeon flew for 14 hours and 35 minutes, a press release said.
