Revenue officials begin damage assessment

Revenue officials have started assessing the losses sustained by the residents of Thooneri grama panchayat in an attack by miscreants following the murder of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activist M. Shibin last week.

Two teams, led by the deputy tahsildars attached to Vadakara taluk, examined 60 houses at Vellur. Vadakara tahsildar N.M. Premraj is assessing the damage to property.

Mr. Premraj will submit a detailed report to District Collector C.A. Latha. The assessment will continue on Saturday.

A preliminary assessment showed that 10 houses had been gutted.

Rough estimate puts losses at Rs.3 crore
