Paithrukam, camp for budding women writers

The Kerala State Youth Welfare Board is conducting a State-level literary camp for budding women writers from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/STs) at Balussery here in July.

The three-day event was conceived by Balussery MLA Purushan Kadalundy. He submitted the proposal to the board, said C.K. Subair, expert member of the board in a press conference here on Tuesday.

Explaining details of the camp, Mr. Kadalundy said it was primarily aimed at fostering a string of new writers from women of the community at a time when representation of women in different spheres of socio-cultural life was ever more important than in the past.

40 participants

Aspirants to the camp should be aged between 18 and 40.

Applicants may send any one piece of their literary creations (in any genre such as short story, poem or essay) along with their bio-data. As many as 40 members will be selected as delegates to the camp and they will be provided with free accommodation, food and travel allowance.

The camp titled ‘ Paithrukam,’ to be held at M. Dasan Institute of Technology (M-Dit) at Ulliyeri, near Balussery, in the district from June 12 to 14, will comprise different segments, including interactive programme with prominent Malayalam writers, sessions that give a brief idea of the history of different Malayalam literary genres and the history of prominent writers.

Cultural events

“An excursion, visit to literary memorials and staging of different cultural programmes will also be part of the camp,” said Mr. Kadalundy.

The entries should reach the board authorities at Jilla Yuvajana Kendram, civil station, B-Block, 6{+t}{+h}floor, Kozhikode, on or before May 30.

Entries can also be sent to the district information office, civil station, Kozhikode. Youth Affairs Minister P.K.  Jayalakshmi, Minister for Panchayats and Social Justice M.K. Muneer and the Minister for Tourism and Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Castes A.P. Anilkumar among others will attend the camp, said the organisers.
