June 12, 2014 03:36 pm | Updated 03:36 pm IST - Kozhikode:

The Kozhikode Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested one more person in connection with the murder of a Non Resident Indian (NRI) businessman, hailing from Thamarassery here.

Officials said that Mohammed Faiz, 30, owner of a hotel at South Koduvally, was arrested for helping the prime accused in the crime. On Tuesday, the Crime Branch had arrested Midhilaj, 24, and Firdouse, 22, on the charge of murdering their father, Abdul Kareem, 48, a Kuwait-based NRI businessman, on September 28, last year.

Investigators said that Mohammed Faiz had assisted the brothers to dispose of the body. Faiz, uncle of the other two accused, was charged with conspiracy and abetment of the Indian Penal Code. He will be produced before Thamarassery Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Thursday.

Meanwhile, officials have intensified the search for the body of Abdul Kareem. His sons had allegedly smothered him to death after forcefully administering chloroform and then chopped off his hands and legs.

The limbs of the victim were dumped in Karnataka and the head and torso reportedly in Kodencherry in the district.

The brothers had nursed a grudge against their father after his second marriage to a Sri Lankan citizen. They believed that their father would hand over all his assets to their step-mother, investigators said.
