Two days after the whole country rose up against incidents of lynching of Muslims and Dalits, Kozhikode too joined the bandwagon with another #NotInMyName protest.
Around 50 people from different walks of life got together at Kidson Corner in the city on Friday raising slogans in support of the #NotInMyName campaign. The protest, led by human rights activist K. Ajitha, was organised in support of the campaign that started in Delhi on June 28 following the killing of a 15-year-old Muslim boy by a mob in Haryana.
The protesters pointed out the recent incidents of communal lynching in several parts of the country in the name of cow protection and came down heavily on the Sangh Parivar for allegedly promoting such incidents.
The campaigners claimed that the Prime Minister’s statement against killing in the name of cow protection was ill-timed and fake. They claimed that the killings had no justification whatever the reasons cited.
The #NotInMyName protests were based on a cry for action by Gurugram-based film-maker Saba Dewan, that led to demonstrations in Kolkata, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Mumbai, Lucknow, Patna, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and even in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.
