A meeting convened on Tuesday by District Collector C.A. Latha to examine the travel needs of students decided to appoint a nodal officer in each school. The officer will examine the complaints of the students and inform the officials concerned. The nodal officers will be in constant contact with the district administration, police and Transport Department.
The Collector ordered police patrolling in all schools in the district. She said students without travelling passes should not be told to alight from buses. She suggested that older men be appointed as conductors in buses that carry more girls. She said buses should not stop beyond the stop to avoid students.
The RTO will be in charge of issuing travel passes to parallel college students. Intense screening would be done before issuing passes. The ladies-only bus plying on the Mananchira-Pantheerankavu route will resume services on June 2, the Collector said. RTO Rajiv Puthalath and representatives of Bus Operators, Parallel College Association, students, teachers and police took part in the meeting, a press release said.
