The North Malabar Chamber of Commerce (NMCC) has demanded that the Union Finance Ministry issue necessary licences to the inland container depot here which was inaugurated in April 2012.
The annual general meeting of the NMCC held here recently urged the Ministry to issue the licences to the depot that was yet to be operationalised.
The meeting also urged the State government to implement the dream projects of the North Malabar region, including the Kannur airport, Azhikkal port development and the National Highway upgrade, with due consideration to their importance. The projects should be viewed with greater seriousness, the meeting stated.
The State and Central governments should take necessary steps to translate the proposed projects such as Handloom Village at Azhikode and Mega Handloom Cluster into reality, the Chamber said. It also demanded that the Kannur town road development scheme be implemented on a war footing to find a permanent solution to the traffic bottlenecks.
