NIC to handle polling updates

May 19, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - Kozhikode:

The National Informatics Centre (NIC) will play a key role on Thursday for the real-time update of Assembly election results from the centralised counting station at the JDT Islam complex.

Three exclusive websites have been prepared for the quick uploading of results.

An NIC official said the main website- trend.kerala.gov.in- will be available for the public to get the real-time counting details of all the 13 Assembly constituencies from 8 a.m. The other two portals have been reserved for the media.

To ensure flawless operation, the NIC team will work together with the technical experts of Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (KELTRON), Kerala State Wide Area Network (K-SWAN) and the Public Works Department. Three rounds of trial runs have already been conducted to test the network speed and clarity of display.

The team will make use of the specially designed Trend software for the project. “The display template for the big screens to be set up at the counting station will be the same as used in previous elections as it has been found very user-friendly,” he said.

Along with uploading details to the State Election Commission’s website, the team will also contribute to the National Election Commission’s online data repository. The official said the real-time update provided during the last Lok Sabha and local bodies elections was a huge success.

“This time, it will be an easier task for us as we have a centralised counting station in the city and a battalion of experts well-trained in the field,” he added.
