NGT stays construction

January 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:04 am IST - Kozhikode:

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has stayed all construction activities being carried out under the leadership of a prominent Muslim organisation in an ‘ecologically fragile land’ in Kodencheri village.

The stay was granted on January 7 while considering a public interest petition filed by K. Savad, an environmental activist from Vadakara.

The petitioner submitted that the organisation, with the support of some government bodies, was carrying out the construction work in nearly 125 acres of ecologically fragile land for a Knowledge City project. He said that no Environment Impact Assessment Study was conducted prior to the work.
