New Collector lists priority projects

May 29, 2013 03:12 pm | Updated 03:12 pm IST - Kozhikode:

District Collector C.A. Latha said the rehabilitation and re-settlement of families living in the neighbourhood of the National Institute for Research and Development in Defence Shipbuilding (Nirdesh), a warship and submarine designing facility at Chaliyam, will be accorded top priority.

“The government has taken up the issue of a rehabilitation package for the families seriously,” the Collector said on Monday.

The package proposed by the government includes the rather challenging task of negotiating the distribution of title deeds for 21 families occupying forest land in the neighbourhood of the 40.52-acre Nirdesh campus.

However, Ms. Latha made it clear that title deeds for the land spanning two acres would be distributed to the 21 families only after the Forest Department gives the green signal. “The present problem is the release of the forest land by the department, only then can we distribute the land,” the Collector said.

The Collector, who took charge on Monday, said efforts would be made in earnest to “speed up the acquisition” under the Kozhikode City Road Improvement Project, Ms. Latha said.

Administrative sanction had been given for land acquisition for seven roads in the first phase.
