Nattukkoottam, Kozhikode, will organise ‘Kuttikalyanam, a governmental child play’ a novel protest programme at Kidson Corner at 11 a.m. on Thursday, questioning the logic behind the recent circular that would legalise marriage of Muslim girls at the age of 16.

In a press release, convener of Nattukoottam N. Balakrishnan said “the circular was an insult to the law and order system of the country. It prevented women from completing their education and divided the public on the basis of religion. The laws against ‘child marriage’, which were made after long struggles for years by many social reformers, are being mocked at, he said Nattukoottam suggests the marriage age be raised by two years; girls shall marry at 20 and boys, 23. — Staff Reporter
