Muslim Educational Society takes up cause of model colleges

May 03, 2013 01:28 pm | Updated December 17, 2016 04:34 am IST - Kozhikode:

The Muslim Educational Society (MES) district committee has urged the State government to provide facilities to students from the Malabar region desiring to go for higher studies at the model degree colleges declared by Centre in backward districts.

The Centre has identified 374 districts in the country for setting up model colleges. It has been decided that the proposed colleges in the State would be in the districts located between Palakkad and Kasaragod. Concurrently, the responsibility of the State government would be to identify land for the purpose, P.K. Abdul Latheef said here on Thursday.

A meeting of the MES district committee said that the government should give serious thought to the issue as districts in north Kerala lacked facilities for higher studies.

MES district president C.T. Zakir Hussain presided over the meeting.
