MT inaugurates Aksharayatra in Kozhikode

Jnanpith laureate M.T. Vasudevan Nair inaugurated the Aksharayatra organised by the Kerala State Institute of Children’s Literature at the Government Higher Secondary School at Azchavattom in the city on Wednesday.

The Aksharayatra is a literary journey through various schools in North Kerala through which the students get an opportunity to get acquainted with well-known writers and their works.

The Aksharayatra will also visit Government High School, Atholi; SRKM High School, Meenchanda; Government Higher Secondary School, Perambra; and MES School, Pavangad; in the coming days in which noted writers such as K.P. Ramanunni, U.K. Kumaran, Akbar Kakkattil, P.R. Nathan, P.K. Parakkadavu, V.R. Sudheesh, P.Surendran, Subhash Chandran, Shihabudheen Pothumkadavu, Veerankutty, Indu Menon and Ramesh Kavil are expected to take part. The yatra will also feature various literary competitions, cultural sessions, book exhibitions and honouring of noted writers.

A prominent feature of the Aksharayatra is that the students will have an opportunity to purchase various books published by the institute at half the price. Around 1 lakh books have been brought for sale as part of the yatra. Arrangements have also been made for the public to view the exhibition. Students from other schools, where the yatra is not held, shall also take part in the activities.

The Aksharayatra that has been completed in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha districts is being organised to share the joy of Malayalam being declared a classical language.
