More vocational courses in Kozhikode soon

The Skill Development Centre of the district panchayat will go in for a major expansion by introducing more full-time and part-time vocational courses for youngsters who wish to take up self-employment ventures.

In the first phase, 16 new courses approved by the National Open School will be introduced at the Centre with a mission to attract young learners.

The courses will be conducted by expert trainers under the guidance of the National Skills Development Centre. Arrangements will be made to accommodate over 300 students in the courses.

Priority will also be given to conduct diploma and certificate programmes in computer application. For homemakers and working women, there will be another set of vocational courses, which will be finalised shortly.

The district panchayat will invest Rs.50 lakh during this financial year for revamping the centre.

The general council also gave the approval for the project during a special meeting held here on Friday.

According to the district panchayat authorities, over 15,000 learners had so far benefited from various job-oriented courses conducted by the centre. Within a period of 10 years, it had also secured the honour of being the best unit in the country, they added.
