Eight people have been killed and property estimated at Rs.3.3 crore has been damaged in the heavy rain that lashed the district since June 1, District Collector C.A. Latha has said.
As many as 14 houses have been destroyed, while 502 were damaged in Kozhikode, Koyilandy, and Vadakara taluks, causing a loss of over Rs.2 crore. Besides, seven cattleheads died. As much as 117.66 hectares of agricultural land was destroyed in different parts of the district, leading to a loss of Rs.1.2 crore. A rehabilitation camp that had been set up in Velam village in Vadakara taluk is still open.
