Monkeys marauding into the villages of Nilambur have become a headache for the people as well as forest officials. The people of Karakkulam village are particularly affected by the frequent attacks by troops of monkeys emerging from the jungles of Karulai.

Houses targeted

The monkeys have been targeting not only the crops and agricultural products but the households in the villages as well. They enter the houses by removing the tiles and also through ventilators.

They lay their hands not only on eatables, but anything that they find in their way in houses. They destroy household goods and home appliances. They also pose a serious threat to the women and children in the families.

People said they had complained to the Forest Department, but little action was taken on it.

Forest officials said that they were chalking out plans to end the monkey menace without harming the primates.
