'Commission should be increased to 10 per cent for recharge coupons and SIM activation'

Mobile phone dealers have complained that they are being unnecessarily harassed by police and demanded that they be paid higher commission.

The dealers, on Tuesday, said that their commission should be increased to 10 per cent for recharge coupons and SIM activation, and appealed to the police to end harassment of traders who did second-hand sale of mobile phone sets.

C.V. Iqbal, Shaiju Chikkilod, and Nissar Ahammed, representing Kerala Mobile Phone Vyparai Samithi, told presspersons on Tuesday that the BSNL gave only 3.5 per cent commission and other service providers, four per cent.

They also claimed that major mobile companies were giving mobile phones to big distributors at cheaper rates and demanded that the practice should be ended since it discriminated against small-time dealers.

The dealers condemned the alleged harassment of merchants by policemen for downloading music, accusing them of violating copy rights. The police should stop harassing dealers who sold second-hand mobile phone sets with the backing of proof of the identity of the first owner, they said.
