The Mission Mode Project (MMP) to make Kerala a zero-landless State by 2015 has moved a step ahead with Kozhikode becoming the 11th district to donate land under the welfare scheme.
The first phase of the project was inaugurated by district panchayat president Kanathil Jameela on Thursday here.
The district finalised its first phase under the MMP by identifying 1,520 beneficiaries who would be allotted three-cent plots here, sources said. The district administration had received 12,000 applications, of which 8,034 beneficiaries were selected using special software developed by C-DIT, they said.
Besides beneficiaries from the general category, the list also included widows and those in the differently abled, terminally ill, and economically backward categories. Those in the Scheduled Tribes and Schedule Castes communities would also get land, an official statement said. These categories would get special consideration, it said.
The selections were done in the village, taluk, and district levels.
The district administration said allottees would receive land in their own taluk.
As per the Governor’s speech on the MMP, available on the project website, ‘efforts for the distribution of pattayams which is now proceeding at a record pace will be redoubled in vigour.’
