MES rally reaches city

November 18, 2014 12:54 pm | Updated 12:54 pm IST - Kozhikode:

A Statewide ‘yatra’ undertaken by the youth wing of the Muslim Education Society (MES), to sensitise youth to the dangers of “Indian culture being westernised,” was given a reception in the city on Monday. It was in the wake of rising number of incidents, which the MES believed were indicators to a “general degeneration of moral values” in society, that its youth wing decided to undertake a Statewide campaign “to make young people realise the dangers of such a degeneration,” said Abdul Azeez, vice president of the MES youth wing, who spoke on the occasion.

The speakers, who criticised “moral policing” by certain political outfits against the alleged immoral activities on the premises of a hotel in Kozhikode recently, however also opposed novel protests such as the controversial “Kiss of Love” campaign, terming it “unbecoming” of Indian culture. “All these will only lead to pollution of Indian culture and a sort of sexual anarchy, which society has to be wary of,” said Mr. Azeez.

The yatra, which started from Kasaragod on Sunday, reached Kozhikode on Monday evening. It would conclude in Thiruvananthapuram on November 22, the organisers said.

MES district president C.T. Zakir Hussain inaugurated the programme. Youth wing leaders including its State president Firoz Muhammed, Sajid Valancheri, and Navas Kozhissery spoke on the occasion.
