The formation of Kozhikode North Railway Station at West Hill and introduction of MEMU services connecting Kozhikode with the main towns are among the proposals which Railway authorities have agreed to implement in the near future during discussions with representatives of the Train Action Committee of the Malabar Chamber of Commerce recently.
M. Shyam Sunder, honorary secretary of Malabar Chamber, said on Wednesday, that Railway authorities led by Palakkad Railway Divisional Manager Piyush Agarwal had agreed to the proposals at the talks with the committee representatives.
M. K. Raghavan, MP, who had also made similar demands for Kozhikode station development, was also present at the talks. One more train service between Kozhikode and Bangalore was also promised, the Chamber secretary claimed.
The MEMU service was expected to materialise next year to connect Kozhikode with Coimbatore, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Guruvayur. It was agreed to open Kozhikode North Station at West Hill since there was not enough space to extend platforms two and three at Kozhikode railway station.
The demands for having a stop for Ernad express at Kadalundi and increasing emergency quota for Kozhikode station were also placed before the Railway officials.
The train action committee was represented at the talks by its chairman P.V. Gangadharan and Malabar Chamber of Commerce by its president Alok Kumar Sabu.
