A medical camp led by tribal healers is being held on the Kerala Institute for Research Training and Development Studies of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Kirtads) campus at Chevayur here from May 21 to 25.
Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Tribes P.K. Jayalakshmi will inaugurate the programme which is being arranged under the joint auspices of Kirtads and the Department of Information and Public Relations.
Financial aid
Financial assistance for artisans, tribal healers, and Scheduled Tribes art and cultural clubs would be distributed at the session.
Tribal healers would be available for consultation from 12 noon to 8 p.m.
Leading the camp
Practitioners of tribal medicine from Wayanad, Palakkad, Attappadi, Idukki, Kasaragod, and Thiruvananthapuram — the more famous among them being Achappan Vaidyar, Vellan Vaidyar, Kelu Vaidyar, and Easwaran Kani — would be leading the medical camp.
The healers claim to have efficacious medicines for diabetes, rheumatism, asthma, and allergies. A steam bath infused with 60-odd herbs is also being arranged at the camp.
