‘Smart City exclusion disappointing’

Kozhikode Mayor A.K. Premajam on Saturday said it was very disappointing that the city did not figure in the list of Smart Cities announced by the Central Government, and attributed this to the population factor.

“We learn that Kozhikode got excluded because it has a population of less than 10 lakh. If population is a major criterion, it was unfair to have applied it to Kozhikode,” she said. (The 2011 census puts Kozhikode’s population at eight lakh.) — Special Correspondent
