The police have arrested M.A. Koya, managing director of Koyas Hospital, Cheruvannur, in connection with the suicide of a schoolteacher last year.

Dr. Koya, 70, was charged with issuing a fake certificate reportedly in a case of injury to a school peon in which the teacher, Anish, had been named an accused. However, a team of doctors at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, on a directive of the State Human Rights Commission, found that there were no such wounds.

Anish, a native of Vadakara, committed suicide after slitting his wrist at a lodge at Malampuzha in Palakkad last year. He was a teacher at Munniyur in Malappuram district. The case against Anish was that he had assaulted the school manager and the peon.

Initially, he was placed under suspension. But the management later terminated his services on the basis of the medical certificate issued by Dr. Koya.
