The success and failure of strategies adopted by Indian organisations to compete in the global market would be the focus of discussions at the 16 annual convention of the Strategic Management Forum (SMF) which began at the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) on Thursday.
SMF is an association of strategic management professionals. Over 100 scholars from industry and academia are participating in the programme.
“The participants will try to decode the DNA of Indian companies which enabled them to withstand the recessionary pressures during the recent years,” a spokesman for the programme said on Thursday.
G.M. Rao, Group Chairman, GMR Group, speaking at the programme on Thursday, narrated the success story of GMR Group and explained how his business transformed from a single jute mill to a business giant in infrastructure segment today.
He explained the concepts of strategic management like blue and red ocean strategy in real world scenario and also explained strategies adopted by GMR group. Mr. Rao also emphasized the importance of family- owned businesses and their contribution to the growth of the nation.
Prof. Saji Gopinath, Dean Development, IIM Kozhikode and Organising Secretary of the convention, Prof. Balasubramaniam, Mr. Parmit Chadha, CEO Strategy Division, GMR Group and guest of honour of the convention, Prof. Deepak Nayanithi and Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode, also spoke.
The convention would examine the uniqueness of the ‘eastern way of management’ and ways of developing ethical and sustainable business enterprises.
About 85 papers on the theme have been lined up in 18 sessions scheduled during the next two days.
Mr Rao also inaugurated the GMR Gallery in the Indian Business Museum at IIMK. The GMR Gallery showcases the 3D Model of the prestigious Terminal 3 (T3) of the New Delhi Airport.
