The Chevayur police on Monday arrested a person on the charge of housebreaking in the city and its adjoining areas.
Seven burglaries
The police said they had arrested Suresh, aka Manikandan, 30, of Perambra who was allegedly involved in seven burglaries in the city last year.
A team led by Chevayur Circle Inspector Prakashan Padannayil nabbed the accused from Kakkodi while he was selling a stolen gold chain.
Using implements
Manikandan confessed to committing many burglaries during interrogation, the police said. He used to break open windows using various implements.
The accused was charged with breaking into the house of K. Ajitha, a social activist, at Thondayad at night.
The police said the accused had committed more than 30 burglaries at Vengeri and Elathur in Kozhikode district and Thrissur and Kodungalloor police station limits.
Investigators said Manikandan had decamped with gold ornaments from a house at Elathur after attacking a woman last month.
He was produced before Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate-I Anilkumar.
His accomplice was still at large, the police said.
