It has been two months since the new State government declared that it would take over the Malapparamba AUP school. And, it has been two months since the teachers of the school got their salaries.

When the school was shifted to the collectorate, the students, teachers and the school protection committee were hopeful that they could go back within a few weeks. They still believe that the government will keep its word.

The eight teachers of the school have not received their wages for the past two months. As a result, the cook who prepares meals for the students, driver of the school bus and the IT teacher appointed by the PTA have not been paid. Besides, the computers have not been shifted to the collectorate.

Mid-day meal

The government has taken care of the expenses for the students’ mid-day meals. The food is prepared at a house a flew blocks away and brought to the school in an autorickshaw every day as it cannot be prepared on the civil station premises.

The teachers are paying the auto fares themselves. The four differently-abled students in the school have not been paid their grants for the past two months.

A new student has joined the school in the seventh standard.

Land acquisition

Education Minister C. Ravindranath, who had visited the school recently, had announced that the school would be shifted back to the old building after Onam. However, the procedure to acquire the land owned by the manager of the school is yet to begin.
