Thieves broke into two buildings of the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court I and III in the city, reportedly in the wee hours on Thursday.

They stole Rs.492 from a post office inside the court complex, goods including ganja and liquor, kept as evidence in various Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases in the court warehouse.

The police said that money kept in other places were found safe though the thieves ransacked the whole place. The building had two security guards on duty at the time of burglary.

Based on a complaint filed by the security men, the Town Police registered a case. The police team carried a detailed spot inspection with the support of Dog Squad and Fingerprint experts.

A police officer from the Town Station said the presence of anti-social elements was suspected in the incident as the target was mainly the narcotic substances. “The quantity of the stolen items is yet to be estimated and the checking process is still continuing with the support of Court staff,” he added.
