Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government would strive hard to fulfil its election promises and the expectations of the people would be dutifully met.

Speaking at a reception organised in his honour under the aegis of the LDF district committee here on Sunday, the Chief Minister said the poor financial condition of the government was a major hurdle in solving many problems immediately.

He said the promises made to the public would be presented in the form of projects in the policy declaration and the budget.

The departments had already been intimated to get ready to implement them, he added.

Mr. Vijayan stressed the need for public participation in keeping the State clean. “We are good at personal hygiene but this does not reflect in keeping our surroundings clean. Waste management is not the sole responsibility of the local bodies.

Every citizen, every family has a role in it,” he said, adding that hygiene was a key factor in the development of the State.

Commenting on the recent incidents connected to the Malapparamba AUP School in Kozhikode, the Chief Minister said schools were public property and the managements had only technical rights over them. The LDF government would try to fix the loopholes in the laws pertaining to schools to avoid such incidents in the future.

Meanwhile, there would be efforts to improve the basic infrastructure of government and aided schools in such a way that the poor children would not be deprived of advanced facilities offered in private schools, Mr. Vijayan said and requested the cooperation of alumni associations, expatriates and the general public in realising the dream, which the government alone could not undertake.
